d&ad

these were mine and jess lewins collaborative entries to the d&ad illustration brief. the two pieces were in response to songs by the andrews sisters and while we didnt make it 'in book' we had a great time making the objects and are pleased with the outcome. we will re-photograph them as they aren't as clear as they could be. the two are piano related items and both are fully functional. the top one is in reference to the ocean and how both waves and piano keys follow a rhythm and the bottom one is to show how people are controlled by music just as a piano is controlled by its player. the little arms and legs dance about when the piano hammers are played. i really enjoyed working in 3d and particularly loved working with the wood. wish i had done more wood work before this project!

toothy

For my final major project i revisited a project from first year, and redesigned a children's book i had written. its about a child who get his teeth taken by pirates because he doesnt brush them properly. it's fairly simple stuff but i've really enjoyed making it, and tried to pay extra attention to using pattern and texture. A lot of the images need re-doing and there are many changes i wish to make, but nonetheless, here are a few double page spread from it!

Robin

its been a while since i've posted, been busy working on final major project for such a long time! but that is done now, so here is a character design from the early stage of fmp.

london 2012

we were set a task to design a series of posters for an imaginary advertising brief to encourage people to cycle to the olympics. i've enjoyed working with stamps recently so uset lino to make larger stamps than previously. the colours were chosen to coincide with the horrible 2012 logo, i usually wouldnt work with these kind of bright colours. i really enjoyed making and stamping the detail of the buildings

the end is nigh

short group animation project. i worked with the lovely Marin Matsuo and Dawn Smit and we produced a short animation on overpopulation. these are some stills, i will add the link as soon as we have uploaded it. the images are made on photoshop using scanned individual stamped pictures of the small buildings. it was great fun to produce and i'm quite pleased with it! collaborations are fun!

obsession

so we might have a little 'zine on sale soon. a collaboration of some of the many talented illustrators in our class. and there will be some postcards too. a bit of a multipack kind of thing going on. anyway, theme is 'obsession' so of course, first thing to spring in to my mind was food! i do love food. its true. and categorising things, only unnecessary things. and organising them into pointless grids. i do like grids. its very difficult to draw anything not into some form of grid at the moment. and it will be screen printed! i do also like screen prints. mmm categorised food grid screen print...

wallpaper

the beginnings of a wallpaper design for a recent project. these are just part of a draft, in my final the building are collaged with small stamped pictures of tanks and bullets and planes and other such weaponry that from a distance just look like tiles and wooden panelling. we were asked to design a wallpaper based on two conflicting character traits, mine were 'overt' and 'covert'. mine was a comment on the military background of our country.

bus bus bus bus

Here is a little flick book i made, based upon my experiences of this summer. essentially my experiences were just commuting all summer to and from work. not hugely inspiring, but this piece is intended to reflect the repetitive nature of travel, and the build up of stress involved in it. the busses and trains are made using handmade rubber stamps.
